They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I do. I also judge movies by their opening credit sequences. Up until yesterday this was my Top 5 List:
- Contact
- Trainspotting
- Napoleon Dynomite
- Kill Bill: Vol. 2
- Juno
But then I saw Watchmen, and it blows my list out of the water. I was entraced in the alternative history montage, completely forgetting what it actually was. I think this occurred because the typeface was not a simple overlay. Rather, each was incorporated into the scene. And, I’m a sucker for slowmo and Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’.” It set the perfect tone for the movie.
yU+Co had it on their site. However, it was removed at the request of Warner Bros. Boo. Hiss. You can find it here, but there’s no telling for how long.
I’m also fascinated by ethical question of what makes a good guy good. This is especially true concerning my favorite character, Walter Kovacs/Rorschach. He staunchly believes in an objective, absolute morality. And yet, his mask and namesake are of a highly controversial and subjective psychological evaluation test. This juxtaposition boggles my tiny mind.
